Clothing to Canvas: Elizabeth Ward Clothing Design... Elizabeth Ward (she/her) is a painter based in Columbus, Ohio, working primarily in acrylic and oil. With a background in apparel design and nearly a decade spent designing clothing out of state, Elizabeth returned to her hometown to be closer to family, she found herself picking up a paintbrush to stay creatively charged. Her paintings mix surrealism with a strong sense of humor, often drawing from the small absurdities of everyday life. Working from her Columbus studio, Elizabeth approaches each canvas with the same attention to texture, color, and form that guided her work in fashion design. ...To Quirky Twists... Much of her inspiration comes from music, misheard lyrics, and misunderstood phrases, things that strike her as funny and spark a visual twist. This offbeat lens gives her work a playful, sometimes dreamlike quality, where nothing is quite what it seems but everything feels oddly familiar. Elizabeth’s artistic process involves careful observation of the mundane moments that most people overlook. Whether it’s a phrase turned literal or a strange mashup of ideas, her pieces invite a second look (and usually a smile). ...To Hometown Smiles Elizabeth is currently a resident artist at High Road Gallery in Worthington, Ohio. She’s shown her work at Not Your Mama’s Craft Market, Birch Boutique pop-ups, and was featured in the Big Local Arts Village at the Columbus Arts Festival. Through her art, she’s found a new way to tell stories; this time not on fabric, but on canvas.
